Short Courses Summer 2019
Come and enjoy art at Stonehouse Studios this summer. Karen Bird is an experienced teacher who will guide and inspire.
We have a range of courses to suit everyone – come alone and meet new friends or bring the whole family along for a new experience.

Painting & Drawing Classes
6 hour classes £65
Half day introduction classes £35
 
Pottery & Sculpture Classes
To allow for firing and drying students will need to return for a second date to finish their artwork. All prices include clay, firing and finishes.
Classes running for two half days £90
Classes running for full days with half day for finishing £140
Life Sculpture (4 sessions including model) £150

Materials and basic tools will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own. You may also wish to bring an overall or plastic-coated apron for protection where required.

Light refreshments will be provided, but please bring a packed lunch or food to share for full-day courses.

Friday 2, 9, 16 & 23 Aug., 9.30am to 12.30pm (4 x 3hrs)

With a traditional approach to life sculpture, this course will enable you to make 3-dimensional and relief sculptures based on the human form.

Life drawing is valuable for improving your understanding of the human form and to advance your drawing abilities.

This is a full day course using a range of source images available in the studio and attractive vistas in the garden for en plein air painting if weather permits.

This courses explores the exciting techniques of mono-printing using additive and subtractive processes, monochrome and colour to create contrasting effects.

You will be working from images or imagination to model in clay an animal of your choice.

Make and decorate a set of plates by rolling out sheets of clay and using simple coil constructed moulds.

This course will give you an understanding of several types of clay and various methods of hand-building pots.

You will be shown how to use different grades of pencil and introduced to the use of line and tone and methods of shading.

You will be introduced to translucent and opaque pigments and the use of aquarelle pencils, using wet on wet and dry on wet watercolour techniques.
